Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) General Secretary Jahangir Tareen returned 73.1 million rupees that he made through illegal means i.e. owning offshore accounts, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) recently informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
A three-judge bench of the court, headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, is set to resume hearing in a case filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, seeking disqualification of Tareen.
The SECP submitted the reply in reference to Abbasi’s petition in the court wherein it was alleged that Tareen illegally bought shares in offshore companies and embezzled such a huge amount.
The SECP, during the inquiry, said that Tareen had admitted to illegally making money which he returned after paying a hefty fine.
The commission further asserted that it had performed its duties well and now an appropriate verdict should be delivered by the court.
