ISLAMABAD – Refusing to make any comment on Panama Papers, Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar said on Saturday that Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali would decide about a judicial commission to investigate corruption charges on senior government, military and civilian officials as well as many others.
“The letter has been addressed to the permanent chief justice,” he told the journalists after being sworn in as acting chief justice of the Supreme Court,” he said. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan where judges and senior lawyers were present. Justice Saqib Nisar will serve as Acting Chief Justice till May 1.
Panama leaks – which have put spotlight on offshore wealth of Sharif family and other Pakistanis – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wrote a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan to constitute a commission to probe into the allegations of Panama Papers.
